bandit wont shift. Help please...and ty
 

ok heres the deal.

i recently acquired a 2002 suzuki bandit 1200 from a buddy.....he had dropped the bike on the left side and broke off the footpeg, shifter ect..he tried to fix it and realized the shifter rod will push in about an inch and a half.he pulled it back out and connected a shifter linkage. the bike is in third gear right now and will ride fine, but will not shift into any other gear....well he has since then got a new bike and thats how i ended up with this one

i think the selector at the end of the shift rod might have went into the wrong place when he just pulled it back out......ANYONE got an opinion on what it might be?
