M95 / 1600 Marauder Engine Knock

I purchased a new 2004 Suzuki 1600 Marauder (same as M95) in April 2005 and have two mechanical problems that the dealer refuses to address. In fact, I've had the dealer-owner and manager drive the bike and experience the issues first-hand.

First issue is the engine knock. The engine-knock is most pronounced (i.e. LOUD!) between 2000 - 3000 rpm's but can be heard at all speeds. The knock is loud enough that pedestrian bystanders and other riders can hear it easliy if I'm riding in the 2000-3000 rpm-range. In fact, I've had a few folks suggest I check my oil or that I had a bad rod after they heard me coming. This knock is not from low-octane gas detonation or what one would call "valve-clatter".

Second issue is the execssive play/slack in the driveline. The bike is shaft-driven, but the slack between a "coasting" throttle-setting and an acceleration setting is a "head-jerking" experience, especially when riding slow in 1st or 2nd gears.

I like the handling, ride, power, braking and looks of this bike, but can't believe that anything with these types of defects will have too much time before mechanical probelms become the norm. If I can't find resolution, I'll be looking to sell or trade as soon as possible.

I've reviewed other bike "owner-review" sites and discovered that a few other riders are reporting the engine-knock problem too. Any ideas or suggestions on how to mechanically address these defects?

Thanks.
