Rear Hub leaking!!!!???
 

I have the 2005 M50. 8000 miles. I changed the rear tire @ 6565 miles.
I just noticed today that it is leaking behind the drain plug where the rim meets the shaft drive system.
It didnt start leaking for 1500 miles after the tire change so I dont think I did anything wrong.
Has anyone had this problem or know what i did wrong?

I dont think it was coming from the drain plug. There was just a small leak I could see where it was dripping on the tire.
But when I noticed it there was a pool about an inch and a half wide on the ground. So i figured a seal was out somewhere inside the drive system.
I pulled the tire off yesterday and ran the bike with it off. I could see no leaks. So i put it back together and cleaned all of the oil and dirt off i have only rode about
15 miles but no sign of leaks yet. I have about a 100 miles to ride on Friday so we will see what happens. I will keep posting my results.

Have you had past experience with a shaft driven motorcycle? If you pulled the wheel off yourself and put it back on your self there is a chance you could have bungled up any seals in the wheel hub. Even if there is a problem 1500 miles down the road it could have been caused by doing the work yourself and not an authorized service center. What could have been cracks in the damn if you will - could have lead to a bursting of the dam - and taking the wheel off and putting it back on may have reseated the seals. The best way to look for any leaks is to wipe down the problem area and to check it daily for any leaks. As for pulling the wheel off and running the engine with no load on it can cause engine damage.

Mine started leaking at 9500 miles. Drained the factory gear oil out and installed 80w90 and leak stopped.
