S50 Hard Starting
 

Just purchased S50. Anyone else have trouble starting engine after bike has set over 2 hours? Any solutions? Was told by service tech that i would have to sit on bike and crank throttle while it warmed up and to ride with choke open until it warms up. Is Suzuki aware of this problem or do they just don't care?

I just purchased a 2007 S50 last week. I've found that I need to have the choke wide open to start the bike - and it's not that cold here - probably high 50s to low 60s today.
I generally run it with the choke full for 30 seconds then one notch in for about 2 minutes and by then I'm clear of stops lights so push it all the way in.

My 1986 Honda Rebel 450 starts without the choke first time every time!

My 2007 s50 is kind of cold blooded too,But usually after a couple minutes with a little choke manuvering it seems okay

I have a 2005 Suzuki S50, and yes they are hard to start in a way. First you need to pull the choke out all the way. Start the bike and let it run for about 40 sec or so and bump the choke down a notch to cut down the high idle. As you progress in warm up down to the last notch leave it there. Ride you bike for about a couple of blocks or untill you get to a main road and after take off push the choke in all the way and you are good to go. Now for those who experience the cold weather 40 degrees or so. It's a pain to start! Mine sometimes takes 3-4 times on the electric start to get it to where the full choke will keep it running. Why? I don't know why except somebody told me that these S50's have a cold port tube for this model and it makes it hard to take the choke off after the start. Other than that I love the bike and I ride it all most every day back and forth to work.

Check to make sure choke knob stays out all the way when pulled out, the are bad about sliding back in a small amount and this will make starting difficult. To fix pull rubber boot up at base of choke knob and tighten plastic ring up and then check to see if choke stays all the way out, be carefull plastic ring easy broken. To start pull choke out all the way (make sure does not slide back) do not turn throttle at first, this makes choke more effective.
