i know that some parts stores sell brand specific readers as well, but if you buy a universal OBDII reading they often send you updates for free, but they are far more expensive

any suggestions on what are good code readers or a website i could read about them some more?

im so interested, because it annoys the piss out of me to take my car to the dealer when the check engine light
just to have them tell me a sensor is acting goofy. then charge me for the visit to tell me just ride it out its probably bad gas

http://www.autotap.com/#AutoTap

Auto tap is like, the god of obd2 reading at home, on your pc, or laptop.

check out part source, or whatever your equivelent of a canadian tire is, pep boys or whatever, they should have handheld ones, that just read codes, and clear them.

More on autotap.

Every sensor in your car that can trigger a check engine light, or check anyting light, has its spot on autotap's software desktop. Like timing advancement, intake temp, coolant temp, engine speed, that kinda stuff
