2006 Boulevard S40 - Squealing
So, I bought my baby in 2012. It only has 1100 miles on it. Excellent condition. When I have driven the bike in rain or after washing it, the bike squeals while driving. I have noticed that when I Engage the clutch, the squealing stops while I am moving. There is no squealing when I am idling and revving the engine in neutral or in gear with the clutch engaged. As soon as I balance throttle and clutch and begin moving, there is a lot of squealing. The squealing process only when the clutch is disengaged. When the bike is dry and has had no contact to water there is no squealing period. I have noticed minor squealing on heavy humid days with no rain. Other then that the bike drives perfectly fine.
Before I try taking it to a shop, I was hoping I could possibly find some answers here first. I did try keyword searching on Google and came up empty-handed. There were some forums for Harley-Davidson's with drive belts experiencing similar issues but, not quite like what I've been having. Could someone please help? Thank you! https://suzukiforum.com/forum/images...ttons/edit.gif |

Hmm... Squealing sound could be from the clutch lining. As you said the sound only occur when you engage the clutch.

Squealing can also possibly be the drive belt. When clutch is disengaged, there is tension on the belt whether accelerating, maintaining speed, or decelerating. You may want to check whether your belt is riding in the center of the large rear sprocket or off to a side.
How's your belt tension? Some prefer to set the belt tension slightly looser, says it extends the life of the belt. When I had my 1987 Savage (they haven't changed this part through the years), I set it to factory standards. Sounds benign as it only occurs during wet weather, and I'd suspect the belt more than anything else. Other bikes using belts have similar complains of belt squeak, so your problem isn't anything new. You might want to do a search on "motorcycle drive belt squeaks" (or "squeals), the answer is out there. |
