Default 77 GS550 Clutch Cable

Hey All,

New to the forums. New to motorcycles. I just purchased my first bike, a 77 GS550, and was recently riding when the clutch handle lost tension. I traced the cable back to the clutch/transmission housing and unscrewed the collar, but the cable was still attached inside the housing. I am pretty sure the issue is that some sort of spring has broke inside the housing that pulls the clutch cable back in when you release your grip. I was wondering if any of you fine professionals had any thoughts?

Also, if it helps, the clutch is stuck engaged. When I turn the engine over, the bike automatically begins to accelerate.

Edit: What does item 10 do on this (CL REL ARM SPRI)? http://www.bikebandit.com/1977-suzuk...a=11#sch262536

Thanks,

Trowe

Default Why are my plugs fouling? 77 suzuki gs550?

I need to know why my plugs are fouling. Entire fuel system cleaned last year. Uses NGK B8es plugs. i tried using all new plugs, nothing. Tried riding harder / faster, jiggled the plug wires / cleaned them . Every plug comes out try and black. Pure black on the end like it was burnt. They will not come clean. It is not oil as it has not burnt a drop. The bike runs fine and starts everytime. Plugs foul about every 100 miles. I get approximately 16 miles per gallon.,,, Has anyone else had this issue? i have tried everything from 87 to sunoco 93 and fuel cleaner to no avial. Have tried petcock on prime, res, and run. No change. REPEAT all 4 plugs are fouling,. Any info or insight would be much appreciated,

Default fouling plugs

sounds like air cleaner could be clogged, causing an off ratio, (rich) condition. Fuel levels could be too high in carb float bowls. Did floats get saturated and sink? This is a less likely scenario because that sort of thing does not usually happen the same way to all cylinders.
