Dead electrical

I have a '96 GS 500. Bought it used in January. It's my first bike. I had to replace the battery about a month ago. Since then, it's been great. I've been riding it a couple of days a week. I rode it yesterday. I was going to take it out this afternoon. I turned the key to "ON", opened up the fuel valve, turned the starter switch on, then pressed the button. It turned over, but was cold and stopped. I then turned on the choke, I think I turned the key off and on, then tried again, but it was completely dead. No electrical. No lights on the gauges. No headlight/taillight. No click when I push the starter.

Took the seat off. Checked battery connections. They look good. Looked for any obvious loose wires/connections. Nothing that I could see.

I thought maybe it was something with the ignition or the particular key, so I switched keys, but still nothing. No power whatsoever. Any ideas?

Really enjoyed seeing this blog on dead radio guys...
My favorites are;
Tesla, Marconi, Fessenden, and Armstrong...
Agree strongly with this deForest blog... He was a bit full of himself... He really screwed over Armstrong, the true genius not to mention his grand larceny against Fessenden... We are here at the 'Western Tower' where the first 2 way trans-Atlantic radio comms took place, and the first radio voice brodcast and first voice heard across any ocean... Not to mention Fessenden's hundreds of inventions... Please visit www.radiocom.net/Fessenden
We will be celebrating the 100th. anniversary on Christmas Eve of 2006...
