Intruder 1500

Howdy all.

Just bought a '99 Intruder 1500. There is not enough voltage generated by the charging system to charge the battery.

The bike starts fine, runs fine, but the electrical is running solely off the battery.

So, after running it for a while...the battery dies...and I am stranded.

Tests on voltage show expected results with key off, key on, and starting.

Upon running up to 1500 to 2000 rpm... I get 12.x voltage. What I understand from reading and from limited car knowledge is that this should be at least 13.x.

Stator and regulator just replaced by mechanic.

Need some help please.

Thank you,
Matt Skweres

I have the same problem with my 92 vs800 intruder. For now I place her on battery tender when I get home and when ever possible if I travel to far off. I have not replaced the stator or the regulator yet so I am curious about your situation. I have a cheap cyclegear battery in her at present possibly a battery issue if it was drained to often and hard charged. Ill check mine and get back to you. gl

Starter issue Intruder 1500

Hey. THis was an old post. I am surprised someone answered!

I had all the replacing done at a shop that subsequently went out of business. It was all aftermarket equipment.

The suzuki shop I took it to eventually replaced the stator, the voltage reg/rec, and battery. I also blew the solenoid.

It now maintains a 13.7 ( hovers around this voltage) voltage when running. I put a maintainer on it, but it is not necessary.

I thought I had learned my lesson by now about oem parts, I hate spending the money, but sometimes you have to. I trusted the first shop.
