Default Tires Q&A

Okay everyone that owns an Aerio knows that the Geolanders aren't worth a $^i*. My third week owning my new Aerio I had to replace two tires which were replace by the dealership. Same type if you ask. What would be a good long life tire? How would you tell? I know that the trend life on the Yoko was 200 is a higher number better or lower? I'm also thinking of plus sizing. Looking at 195/205/215/etc. the bigger the better here in NM we have a lot of sand and dirt. So give me your two cents and school me. <Shortbus><NE1>

One thing at a time...whats your normal driving conditions? What kinda driving do you do?

BTW, I loved the Geolanders, especially with the rear sway bar. And they worked great in Florida's wet weather. Here with the wet, I didnt want to go with a wider tire, for several reasons.

BTW 200 is a soft tire...theYok AVS ES200's Ive got are that, and I love em! Ive had em for bout 7000 miles...they are a quiet tire with great wet weather traction...but I sure miss my screaming Geolanders, they were so fun to push in the turns, and very predictable with the sway bar!

okay I drive from home to work about 25 miles one way. From home to school about 45 miles. From work to school 70 miles you do the math. It's very dry here and hot threw out the week. I don't race but the normal driving speed is 55-70 mph. So something with a tend over 400 would be great. thanks for the info check that site out and its great they have a pic for our car and show the rims on the Aerio it's great

i got some michelin "XGT, V4 [M+5]" tires, i've had them for 2 years, and clocked over 12k.
I commute to work, and school,

about a 60mile trek from my house, to school, then to work, and then home again, mon-thursday

on friday it's
from home to school, back home, then to work and then home again, and then off to the bar makng it about 105miles/day

I live on a gravel road it's one mile one way, to a highway, and 5 miles the other way to a highway, it's faster for me to take the 5 mile gravel route, and all that driving kinda makes for a hard time on the tires.

These tires have been excelent for me..in the summer.....great on wet surfaces too.

Winter time is different, i needed a good pair of grippers, so i got some steel rims, same size as the summer ones, and looked around for the best thing i could find, and everyone told me to go with some (p195/55/r15) michelin x-ice winter tires...mainly because they didnt have anything else for that specific rim....at the time....but i absolutly love these tires, my car turns into a snow plough in the drifts, and only stopps when the underbody gets jacked up on a bed of extremely hard-packed snow.

I also have driven on the x-ice tires trough etremely rainy days, and found them to preform beautifuly on wet corners, cloverleafs, and slopes. Stopping is great, but acceleration on ice is not so good, but alot better than most all season tires.

So for me, rough summer driving, Michelin XGT, V4.

Winter, rough roads, and wet roads Michelin X-Ice.

Thanks for your info, I don't need to worry about snow anymore since I moved here to New Mexico when we'll get snow MAYBE twice a year. I look up for those tires here at the Big O tire inc. store and there a reasonable price. My friend that works here (store manager) trying to push these sick 18 on my Aerio for $800 bucks with the rubber. I don't know if I should take them he assures me that they will not rub just to be easy while in the malls with speed bumps.

this is a link so you can check out what he's hooking me up with but I'm still not sure if I should do this. I think I should go with 17's with some Falken tires

With the sway bar and bushings, I could sweep the ***-end around when needed/desired, very predictably too...I miss making those babys scream! But mostly I liked the wet weather traction...I have never felt more confident in the rain! Thats why I bought these new AVS EV100s...and Im still pleased, although entirely different kinda tire.

[edit]And Id never go with 18s on an Aerio! Unless youre all about the bling....cause yer gonna get spanked at just about every traffic light...and most likely you will rub![/edit]

Well my tire guy is a very reliable guy he's been in the tire biz for will over 10 years and he a sures me that they will not rub. I wasn't really thinking on getting those tires. I was just shopping to see what's out there and to get schooled. I have been informed that the stock rim can only surport 195/55R15 tires only is this true? I wanted to use them for 215/60R15 tires there more cheaper and have a better tread life then the OE any ideas on this matter? I was thinking on getting some Tenzo R Passion on my ride
