Default Is It A GS1100 With A GS750 Engine?

There's a 1980 Suzuki GS1100E advertised in my local Craig's List. $ 1,100 firm, 23K miles, Last rode in 1995. Last started in 2005. You would think that he would have started it once again before posting it for sale, wouldn't you?
Anyway, the known problem with the bike is that the battery goes dead within a few hours. But, that's not the problem for me. THE BIKE HAS GS750 EMBLEMS on the side covers. He said the previous owner did that. So, the question is WHY? Was the bike laid down and 750 side covers was all he could find at the time to replace the damaged one(s)? That doesn't seem right. If it was laid down then only ONE side cover would be damaged and need to be replaced.
Or, is that REALLY an 1100 engine? Could he have blown the original 1100 engine and slipped in a 750 engine? How can I tell the difference between a 750 and an 1100 engine without tearing the bike apart? Inquiring minds want to know. And, would you guys pay $1,100 for such a bike? Hasn't been started in 14 years and may not start now. $ 1,100 is a lot for a clump of metal. But, it MAY fire right up and run like a champ. So much to consider.
