Default air conditioning fault

I have a 2007 right hand drive grand vitara. A car crashed into the front left of it and damage the side wing, bumper, bonnet and left light. Since the crash the ramp reading in the dash is blank. The light on the recycled air selector is flashing. If I select fresh air on this switch the light on the recycled air starts flashing again after a few seconds.
I have read that there is an outside temp gauge in that corner that maybe the cause of the temp reading in the dash being blank. Is this true. Is there anything in that corner that could be damaged that is causing the blinking light on the recycled air selector.
Thanks
