Basic Check Engine Light Question??

Check engine light came on today, 2006 GV, I had the wife check the gas cap she found the gas cap completely off, either from 17 YO daughter forgetting to reinstall after filling up (she was the last person to put gas in) or a midnight siphoner, either way wife reinstalled the cap put some gas in and the GV is running fine, light still on after two or three 5 mile or so drives.

Question: how long should I expect before the light goes out, assuming the issue was indeed the gas cap??
