Just bought a 2009 RM-Z 250
My son has a new to him, 2009 RM-Z 250. I would like him to get into the habit of doing a pre and post ride maintenance. What do you guys recommend for checks before riding and what would you recommend for after each ride day?
Also fluid and filter recommendations for oil and air cleaner if you have a preference.

Post Ride Maintenance:
After each ride clean down thoroughly with jet wash and soap (muke junkie), be careful not to force water into seals, and spray with WD40 to disperse water and prevent rusting.
Check around the bike for any wear and tare and anything worked loose, broken, or leaking:-
Head Stocks, Swing arm and suspension linkage for smooth running (not sticking), Nuts and bolts, Chain tension, Brake pads, Clutch free play, Remove air filter for cleaning using No-toil cleaner. Make list of parts and work required to bring bike back to rideable condition.
Pre Ride Maintenance:
Fit new parts as required from previous survey grease up bearings etc. Lube chain,
Re-oil and fit air filter using No-toil oil every ride.
Change oil and oil filter every four rides using BARDAHL XTC C60 10W40 (this oil is expensive but its the best your money can buy) and clean screen filters in base of engine.
Check wheel bearings and spokes for play and tyre pressures , Check clutch free play and brakes for stopping power bleed if required.
Hope this helps a little. But the best thing you can do is check over the bike thoroughly after every ride it will stop you having to many issues while riding.

I would recommend you to keep the Suzuki Repair and Maintenance Manuals that will help you in proper maintenance and repairing of your RM-Z 250. They have pictures and step and step information about maintenance.
