If you have got Sony HXR-NX70U NXCAM Compact Camcorder, you will find you can store content or back up important shots by copying footage directly from your camcorder to an external hard disk drive (sold separately) without using a computer. It can also access videos stored on an external hard drive for playback on HDTV, allowing you to utilize the camcorder's handy playback features.

The NX70U camcorder recorded video is AVCHD(.MTS or .M2TS) frmat, as we all know it is a not good editing format, in general, we have to make sure AVCHD files are directly from camcorder if we import the recordings to Mac softwares for playing and editing, like iMovie. Besides this, the AVCHD video with 1080p@60fps is not supported by almost NLE's. So, if you try ingesting HXR-NX70U clips to iMovie, you are likely to meet some incompatible problems, it menas you probably see anything in iMovie.

To help Sony HXR-NX70U users to avoid the issue, we suggest you to transcode the nonstandard 60p files to a comfortable format before transferring. You should know iMovie is designed to natively edit AIC .mov format, so we can transcode AVCHD to AIC, thus we can directly drag and drop the converted file to iMovie 8/9/11 for further editing.

How to reformat Sony HXR-NX70U AVCHD MTS to AIC MOV with native frame rate 29.97/30fps

Step 1: Run the MTS Converter and then load your .mts or .m2ts files to it to converting. If you have moved NX70U files into a drive, the program also can recognise them.

Step 2: Click "Format" bar to choose the output format and choose "iMovie and Final Cut Express--> Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC)(*.mov)" as the best output format for iMovie.

Step 3: Tap "settings" icon to customize the output parameters, adjust the resolution, bitrate as you want. Set video size as 1920*1080, video frame rate as 30fps is better if your file is 1080i/p 60fps.

Step 4: Click convert button and start to change 1080 60p AVCHD to AIC .mov for iMovie on Mac OS X.

After the NX70U mts/m2ts conversion, tap “Open” to find the output file, then you can copy the export video to iMovie for editing easily.
