gsxr 600 idling weird

as far as i can tell, everything operates fine until it gets to higher temps. i never overheat, but soon after getting hot from sitting in traffic or whatever, it idles really high; between 3700-4000 rpm.
it stays idling high even after it cools down from riding back to the 170's. i either have to turn it off and wait a while, or hit a good stretch of road where i can continually ride to let stay cool for awhile.
other than this, it seems like everything is fine starts, idles, and drives fine when cold or warm.
it kinda sounds like it's not getting enough air. or maybe to much air? i was also thinking that maybe in some weird way the throttle cable/body was getting caught, but i can't find any evidence of that
any thoughts on the problem or things i can check to eliminate the possible causes? please this has been driving me nuts!
thanks in advance

RE: gsxr 600 idling weird

Hi,

Yes, sounds like too much air (lean mixture). My first thought is that your motor is developing an intake air leak as it warms up. Check things like carb boots and o-rings, sealed airbox, etc.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
