Default HELP Massive oil leak HELP

Hey all,

I am a new member on this forum and I have had the bike about eight months. It has been a really great starter bike and runs excellent. It is a 78 GS750E with about 20,000 miles. I just drove it for a 3 hour ride down to school, and somewhere in the middle it started blowing oil all over. I probably stopped 5 times on this 120 mile journey just checking the oil. Other than the massive oil leak the bike was running fine, no loss of power, no funny noises, and no exhaust smoke. The leak is definately not in the valve cover gasket or in the tach seal. The only other place that I can think of and that it seems to be comming out of is the head gasket. Does this seem reasonable/likely? Any info or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Andy

Default RE: HELP Massive oil leak HELP

Just following up.

I got the head off and I got all the parts to get it back together, just waiting on a shop manual. Does any body know of a good place on the internet to get some good technical information and help with this bike/motor. I am specifically worried about the timing and torque specs. I have never delt with any sort of DOHC before. This project is really becoming a big deal since I am doing it in a parking lot and I have been relying on the bike for regualr transportation up to now, so any help or feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again
Andy

Just following up some more.

I got it back together and it runs. NOT VERY WELL THOUGH. When it worms up I can't keep it idoling. It still seems to have all the normal power going down the road. Also Worst of ALL I dont think I even fixed the damn oil leak. I am completely lost and extreemely frustrated with this bike. Absolutely any information will be great help.

Andy
