Putting and editing 1080p 50fps/60fps MTS clips to iMovie
 

Have you got one camcorder, like Sony NEX-FS700, to record 1920*1080 Full HD MTS footage up to 60fps(50fps for PAL)? If so, have you met the incompatible erros when you tried importing 60p(or 50p) MTS videos to iMovie 8/9/11 for further editing? As far as I know many users are meeting the troubles.

How to get 1080p@60/50fps MTS videos to iMovie 8/9/11 editing?

In fact, iMovie can't support the format 1080p@60fps because it is a nonstandard format. If you want to natively edit the videos on Mac, FCP X 10.0.4 or above can help you do that sometimes. But to ingest it to iMovie, you have to firstly transcode it to a compatible frame rate with a native format, like AIC. Step 1. Run your MTS convert program on your Mac. Then add MTS file or files to it.

Tip: Check the box of "Merge into one file", you can join/combine several MTS files.

Step 2. Click “format” and move your pointer to "iMovie and Final Cut Express" category, the "Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC) (*.mov)" is the best output format.

Step 3. Tap "Settings" to set video size (1920×1080/1440×1080/1280×720/720×480), bitrate (from 1Mbps to 20Mbps), frame rate (24p/25p/30p) as you need.

Trick: If your AVCHD file is 1080 50p, you need to set the frame rate as 25p while 1080 60p for 30p. Sometimes, the frame rate 29.97fps is a good choice.

Step 4. Start converting AVCHD to AIC under Mac OS X.
