SV 650 Suspension

Hey everyone,
I'm new to this forum so bear with me... first post.

To anyone with an SV 650 specifically the naked version: I have recently noticed that during cornering, the front wheel seems to be dipping a little more than I expected. Basically, the front suspension feels soft while in corners, but fine on the straights. I was wondering if this is a simple matter of increasing the front suspension pre-load setting, or if this could be a bigger problem. The bike has 500mi on it now, and I am still breaking it in.

Also, any recommendations on after market exhausts are appreciated.

Thank you in advance

RE: SV 650 Suspension

Hi,

I'm no expert, but here's some food for thought.

One would hope that a new bike has been set up properly, and with only 500 miles there would be no significant problems developing so soon.

If you are really "getting it on" in the corners, you will want to hit the gas just a soon as you get off the brakes. This will keep your suspension from hopping up and down so much as it is loaded and unloaded while using the brakes and throttle. As you are braking into a turn, gravity and centrifugal forces on your bike are at a maximum, pushing the frame down. When you let off the brakes, your bike wants to ride back up on the suspension. Then you hit the gas. Your bike, again, has forces pushing on the suspension, forcing it down again. It may seem like you have bad suspension when, actually, it's just bad timing of brakes and throttle.

Then again, for the way you ride, you just may need a little thicker fork oil.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
