gsf600 & 1200 parts interchange??

first off Hello to the forum!!!
Ok now my question ... I have a 2000 gsf600sy and hate that I do not have a gas gauge... Can I hook up the gas sending unit and gauge from the 1200 ??
cause their basically the same bike right???
