I'm a little smaller than you and I got an 06 gsxr 600 for my first bike, I don't think that it is to much to learn on. Just be careful, it wont pick the wheel up just by snappin the throttle, just get the feel for the clutch and you should be ok, if you get anything less your gonna wanna trade it in for something bigger in a month, I've already been down it happens, becasue it's a sportbike everything is really sensitive ( throttle, brakes ext.) Ride at your speed and get used to the bike and be careful and you'll be ok.

yeah i hear ya on that 1, i have a couple years experience myself and for my first bike im gettin a gsxr 750 next month. i have a couple of buddies who wanted the 750 after a couple of months riding the 600. it all depends on your riding style, and what kind of performance your looking for.im pretty short myself, im only 5'6" and like 160 so a 600 to start for you is a good way to go.
