Default Starter Switch

I have a 2006 LS650. On the handlebar switches on the right side, my starter switch sometimes seems to freeze. It gets stuck and I can't push it to crank the engine. Usually, a swift hit with the heel of my palm does the trick, but I am afraid of getting stuck somewhere and not being able to start it. I was thinking of using a can of compressed air to try and clean it out. I was going to spray WD40 in there but was told not to. There is a screw which will let me open the assembly, but I am not real good at electrical work. Any suggestions from the forum would be welcome. I am new to this site, I hope it is helpful.
