Default DR 650 stalling when shift into first adter startup

Hi,I just bought a 2004 used Suzuki DR 650,love the power but just had an odd problem with it this evening,.I went to start it up so have to have the trans in neutral and the clucth pulled-in,depressed to start it.OK after ignition I shifted the trans into first with the clutch still depressed and the engine "stalled".So put the trans in neutral again and the same problem. This went on for like 10 trys then I gave up.OK heres the weird crap now, after about 30 minutes it started as if there was no problem and "allowed" me to shift it into first without going into stall-mode"!WHAT ON EArth could be causing this you think?ANY IDEAS OUT THERE,ANY HELP WOULD BE MOST APPRECIATED oh and BTW,I only bought this bike this Tuesday and the previous owner never had this problem with it so is this a normal issue with these DR 650s???Again any help would be gratefully appreciated,TY all,OLD JoeJava68

Its a good feature for noob bikers like me, who sometimes forget to put it up, but not so good for people who like bike tall bikes and are not tall enough to get there feat on the ground, so have to flick the sidestand down to stop.
