Ignition swithc-On/Off and P? What's wit the "P"

Just got this '87 VS700. What is the "P" position for on the ignition switch?

Park lights up the rear light to make you more visible when you are parked along side the road. Just be careful as you can remove the key in that position which could result in a drained battery.
