I'm a first time Suzuki owner of a 2002 Bandit 1200S. The bike has 28000Km on it (approx 17.5K miles). The dealer told me that the ticking I hear when at idle is a typical Suzuki sound.

It's kinda like a PCV valve on a car ticking away or slightly noisey hydraulic lifters. Is there anything to worry about with this sound? I have another 2 weeks on waranty right now so I'll get it checked if it's not a normal sound.

It's not loud it just doesn't sound like a V-Twin (previous bike).

Runs really smooth and responds very well....needs a twist of the throttle when cold to start but that's about it.

Does it go away when you get up to normal operating temps???

 

My brand new GSXR is doing this also but only when the outside temp is pretty low meaning cold engine.

Also remember that metals expand and contract under different temperatures. An engines tolerances may be in spec at the ideal operating temperature of 180ish degrees so if the engine is at 60 degrees then there may be slight noises.

Id say just let it warm up before you rev it or drive it to be sure you dont damage anything, unless you still hear the noises.
