just had to replace my rectifier. after i changed it out i noticed that the new one is getting very hot quickly... is this normal?

what were the symptoms that made you change the rectifier ? my sv bikes been stored unused for 6months with the alarm on+ the battery was dead . ive fitted a new battery , but it still cant keep a charge + wont turn over . thanks
