Friction Zone

Friction Zone
Hi Everyone.
I'm a noob.
I just passed my skills test and bought my first bike, a new 2008 GS500F.
I took it out yesterday to a parking lot and was quite discourage on the number of times I stalled it trying to start from a stop. The friction zone seems really small compared to the bikes used in training.
As the bike is ridden, will it get any larger? Is it just a matter or practise for me to get used to the on/off of the friction zone?
I am just worried as I NEED to be able to not stall when leaving first, and also for slow speed turning.
Thank you.
Any tips would be appreciated.
Signed,
