Default Greetings from Ireland...

Hi.

I'm Stephen, 36, Irish and being given an '81 GS1100 to restore and (hopefully) ride. A friend is giving it to me as he's had it for several years and done nothing with it. Before he got it, though, it had been lying up on it's side-stand for years and the lowest part of the tank developed rust and rot.

My friend gave it to a guy to repair and, to cut a long story short, the guy's gone missing and I'm basically writing the tank off as "gone".

I find myself in need of a replacement tank and I'm looking for info on what model tanks would be suitable to use on the bike. The bike itself hasn't been registered in Ireland yet (it's still on American plates) and I've not seen the paperwork for it yet but my friend says it's an '81 model - if that makes any specific difference??

I've seen, on ebay, that some tanks will fit an 850, 1000, 1100 etc but I'd like to be sure of what I'm getting before I buy it.

Can anyone on here please advise me of what I should look for? It'd be very much appreciated as I'd love to get this beauty on the road again.

Many thanks,

Steve.

Lucky guy (luck of the Irish)? I can't imagine how amazing it would be to ride a Suzuki bike around the beautiful green hills of Ireland's countryside. Happy riding man and good luck fixing your bike!
