I got a 1989 Suzuki Sidekick JX hardtop with rear tailgate from my dads estate and this is where I need help.

The back tailgate door at the top it leaks - I originally thought it was missing the tailgate weather stripping but with closer inspection I noticed the following. Body side weather strip is complete. Problem is the existing weatherstripping has a 1/4 inch gap at the top. The door aligns perfectly when shut.

Is there a secondary weather strip on the Door side that creates the seal when you close the door. I can put my hand through the top of tail gate when the door is closed - hence when it rains the water from the roof flows in the cargo area behind the back seats.

I took it to a body shop and the guy could not figure it what the problem was. Door aligns perfectly within the body lines when closed.

I thinking the door is missing some water shield or weatherstripping.
