looking at gas-efficient/highway bike

I have an 1980 gs 850. I am not satisfied with the 30-35 mpg I have been getting and I want to buy another used bike. Can someone recommend me a good cruiser or crotch rocket to look at that gets good mileage and can still commute on the highway? Thanks.
