2003 xl7 help! with going further on timing chain

had the nasty timing chain issue 94k mi just finished changing the main tensioner and guide. its a lot better, but still chain slapping(noticed some sludge)does anyone know of some good diy guides or info to help me put the new chain in. Im a little anxious after reading a few horror stories, but have significant mechanic skills. just can find any info except to remove engine for this procedure. thanks
