Angry Suzuki 2001 XL 7 excessive fuel usage

I have recently bought a used suzuki XL 7 2001 model with 138,000 Kms. This car have very poor fuel consumption with the average consumption of 4.5 km/ Lt or 22Lts/100kms on city drive. I havent tested it on the highway drive. However this consumption seem to be very excessive to car with 2.7 engine and well above the specification which is 13.6Lts/100 km. Could any one know the causes of this excessive fuel consumtions and how can it be reapired to obtain normal fuel usage.

So not saying it's going to perfectly fix the situation but I have noticed with my XI7 it got a lot better if fuel economy with one replacing the fuel filter. As well as replacing spark plugs with iridium plugs Using E15 fuel which the xl7 is equipped to use( Says so in owner's manual ) Change the air filter to the cone filter and removed the almost 50 pound restrictive muffler And actually has gotten a lot better gas mileage almost a little bit more then OEM big thing to check is that your throttle positioning sensor is still good because that can also cause excessive fuel use which I had an issue with mine I also found out how hard it is to get parts sometimes for the Xl-7 so I can drop the places I've gone for parts and parts that cross reference with the 2nd Gen. Xl-7, To do all of this thus far I have only put in Maybe 120 bucks to do all of this. Also another good thing to check is You're fuel injectors at this mileage because mine are still going badd currently at a 153000 so you're getting close mine have been bad for a while
