Default 2009 s40 boulevard

i just picked up this ' 09 boulevard s40 and its been sitting for a while and the gas tank is off from the previous owner. #1 question is does the gas tank have to be connected in order for the circuit to be complete and work? i just took the old battery out, a yuasa y14l-b2 acid battery and the levels look a bit uneven and its been sitting, so maybe some more acid+a charge might bring her back to life. if not, i was looking at this battery on ebay, and since its a agm it looks like the lack of a vent hose wouldnt be an issue and it would fit seamlessly. if anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.. thanks alot - x
