Well for starters youve only got 500 miles on her so far, shes just beginning to break in, but drive how you feel, give her some high revs every once and again, itll do the rings good to help them seat, you dont really have to baby it too much...just drive how you feel.

Get the oil changed after 1000-1500 miles, switch to synthetic 5w30 and do oil change intervals of 5000 miles for the first 25k, then streach the intervals out to 7500 miles.

Your mileage will improve as the motor breaks in, as the miles build up, I had low mileage but its really improved over the last 2 years...Im now at almost 50k miles and Ive been getting around 29 mpg recently.

If you do alot of city driving it will hurt you too...but that AWD is killing you!!! And with all the alignment problems 06AWDs have its no surprise yours is crummy...but it will get better!

I have an '04 SX AWD, and I've been kinda disappointed with my usual 20-22 mpg. I drive a mix of city and highway. I've only taken two exclusive highway trips so far... the first one gave me 26 mpg and the second only about 22 mpg (it was quite windy...). Oddly, using my a/c heavily in the summer doesn't seem to affect my mpg's at all. So that much is good...

I DO live in Milwaukee where we are forced to use gasoline with 10% ethanol. As I understand it, this reduces economy by 10%.

I'm glad I'm getting better than 18 mpg though. Yikes. Hopefully that'll improve quickly.

I must admit that I've driven Ford Focus and Honda Civic rental vehicles in the past few years, and their mpgs have been about the same (22 mpg) -- with smaller engines and no AWD.

Check your alignment, balance your tires, change your oil, change your air filter to an K&N drop in, plus use and K&N oil filter, make sure your tire psi is at 34. Clean the engine too remember your Aerio is still know you need to work it out and get it a nice beer belly then you'll see it in it's all found glory.

I have a hair under 60k miles on my '02 Aerio and i just finished improving the gas milage and adding about 10 - 12 hp. by changing the air filter and oil. I then added some Z-Max for the engine, trans., and gas tank. From there I added a vortec fuel saver and stuck it into the intake hose and bought a module that connects with the IAT (intake sensor) to give it a faster throttle response. That module even took care of my check engine light that I've been ignoring for 5 months. Now I saved about 2 gallons and have better uphill power for my traveling.
