charging issue

Default charging issue

i have a 2001 gsxr 600 ..the wireing between the stator and the rectifier keeps melting even when i disconnect the DC output..i change rectifier and the same thing happens ..the AC output is 40 volts with no load and 4 volts when i plug in the rectifier..i put resistors across the AC output and the voltage stays at 40 and the wires dont melt..can anyone help me with my problem thanx
