Default DR 650 1995 carb problems

[X(]
I have been fighting carb problems on my lightly used 1995 DR 650. with 3860 miles and no damage. The caburatore is a Mikuni and appears to be a flat slide rather than the one pictured in the alpha sports parts fiche.

I have to use 1/2 choke ,when hot, and as soon as it fires lean the choke to take off. The motor dies at idle at lights and it spills gas out of the drain as if the float is sticking. This is after a carburator rebuild that did not solve the porblem. Motoring down the road or through the weeds it's fine but in stop and go it will easily die and become a bear to re-start.

Do I have a float issue, sealing issue, diaphram issue or a combination of the issues? Any carburator experts out there.

Default RE: DR 650 1995 carb problems

I found out the carb is a Mikuni HST 40 used on this bike from 1992-2006. It is a diaphragm carb with no accelerator pump. I suspect I have a sticky float and an air leak.
