Default power loss

I have an '05 C90T. It was running great one day and then the next time I rode it and tried to pass a car it went from 70 to 40 in just a few seconds. It boggs right down and starts popping and backfiring then quits. I have checked the fuel filter, tank, hoses and lines, battery connection, etc....
It wil start right up and idle fine, It will also run right up to speed but you can't cruise with it or it dies. The plugs were black when I took them out and I thought there wasa bit morecarbon on the exhaust tips than usualand a slight smell of raw fuel. I thought I had a bad plug but I don't think so now.
I know others have had this problem, wether or not it was cause by the same thing I don't know but i could sure use some new input. I have an extended warranty but I am having a hard time getting it into the shop. Any ne ideas would be so welcome and appreciated because the bike is not ridable as is!!!!! Thanks, tuneman
