Hello all. First time poster. I purchased a 1995 DR650 recently, 17,000 miles. It is in pristine shape as I bought it from a 66 yr old man who had it since 1998 and kept amazing care of it. I don't believe it ever got "off road".

Here is my question(s). First gear seems to be really long. Is that pretty normal? Just seems like on a dirt bike, you are shifting out of 1st almost right away where this one seems to go all the way up to 25 before I feel like I need to make the shift to 2nd.

Second question. My crankcase (I am hopefully naming the part right) gets incredibly hot after riding for a while. I guess I figured the oil cooler up above would keep that much cooler. I know after about 20 minutes of riding, there is no way I can put my hand down there. I can feel the heat through my boot (along my right ankle). The owner I bought it from had just completed a change of oil and filter using synthetic. Is this pretty common? Is the oil cooler possibly not working correctly?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
